FINALLY, my vacation!

So, since Cyndi has given me SO much crap about not blogging my trip and my good friend from high school, Gina, emailed and asked about my trip. I finally did it! I wrote it all out. This is the response to Gina's email (really why write it twice) but it works just the same!

We had a great time!

We flew to JFK and rented a car and then drove up to Boston. On a Friday night it was CRAZY!

We stayed in Boston for 2 days. We followed the trail and went to Cheers (how could you not, right?).

We hoped to go to the NECCO factory and Sammy Adams brewery (one for me & one for Shawn), but it was Sunday and they were closed. So we went to Salem, MA instead. We did the witch tour, it was cheesy! But the town & the cemetery were cool!

(not a witch, just some Puritan guy)

Then we went up the coast and stayed at Gorham,ME. There we went to Kennebunkport and walked around and shopped. Then we went to Portland for dinner.

The next day we went up to Stonington. It was such a quiet coastal town, it was very nice.

Then we had the longest leg of our trip and we drove to Derby,VT. We stayed there 2 nights. Drove to Burlington, not the best idea! When we got there it was rush hour and we couldn't get out. We got back 5 minutes before our dinner reservations. Whew! But the drive was beautiful and we were able to stop and get some Vermont maple syrup and suckers along the way!

(just us being silly in Derby, VT)

We were also like 20 minutes away from the Canadian border. Before we left we had looked online to see what you needed to visit Canada, well it said you needed a passport, so it wasn't an option. When we were there in Warren, they told us you just need a dr license. COOL! So we headed up to Montreal for a couple of hours. It was really neat, but ya know the nerve of them, they speak a whole different language up there! ;) All the street signs were in French, the people spoke only French. They really weren't thinking of us and our inability to speak French! But we had a good time despite that fact! ;)

The next day (we covered ALOT of ground!) we drove down to Warren, VT. I think that Vermont was my favorite state. If we could we would move there, but it's not gonna happen!

Warren is about 25 minutes from the Ben & Jerry's factory! FABULOUS!! Our B&B gave us free tickets and we were able to go on a tour. They even have a graveyard of unsuccessful flavors. They have a headstone and they actually bury a carton of the ice cream.

The next day on our way to Deep River,CT we were able to stop at the Joseph Smith Memorial in Sharon, VT. It was pretty cool AND I was surprised Shawn said ok. I gave him every out, but we still went! There is hope still! ;)

(this was Joseph Smith's front door step)

After Connecticut we headed back to JFK. We left our rental car in long term parking (it was too early to return it) and headed off to a subway stop. After a 45 train ride, we were in Manhattan! I LOVE MANHATTAN!! We walked around, but what else can you do! I will NEVER let Shawn drive in Manhattan! Driving in Montreal nearly gave me a panic attack because it was so very busy and Manhattan is worse, so we will ALWAYS walk! (sorry tangent) We walked from times square to Central Park, St Patrick Cathedral, the apple store (we have sold our souls to apple ;) , and back. It was a lovely end to our vacation. But it makes me want to go back again, and again, and again!

Overall it was a great trip. It was a LOT of driving, but alot of fun too. I am 11 weeks pregnant, so it made eating an adventure on the trip.

(our little baby bean)

But, by the end of the trip I pretty much had that figured out. Lots of fun! I am so glad that we were ale to go, because this is for sure our last non "family" vacation for a while. So it was extra good to get away.

There are so many more pictures I would love to post, but it's not happening today! So watch for the others! They MAY be posted another day! ;)
