Gems on the Family
Extended Family Members Can Provide Support
------------------------------
"In today's world, where Satan's aggression against the family is so prevalent, parents must do all they can to fortify and defend their families. But their efforts may not be enough. Our most basic institution of family desperately needs help and support from the extended family and the public institutions that surround us. Brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, grandparents and cousins can make a powerful difference in the lives of children. Remember that the expression of love and encouragement from an extended family member will often provide the right influence and help a child at a critical time."
M. Russell Ballard, "What Matters Most Is What Lasts Longest," Ensign, Nov. 2005, 43)

These words are so true! With all that's been going on with Shawn's side of the family, these words speak so strongly to me. It just amazes me how strongly Satan works to break up families and how easily he wins sometimes.

A week of vinyl...

Right before Christmas I was fortunate enough to have the winning bid on eBay for my baby... um I mean vinyl cutter! Shawn thought he was done shopping for my Christmas, but he was wrong!! Anyway, ever since I have mad vinyl moments. And this week was one!

On Sunday was our Activity Days Recognition Night. We had a "shine" theme. And I wanted to do something for the girls to make it a little more special. So I cut 2x4's into 5" blocks. Painted them pastel versions of the primary colors and put shine on them. I think they turned out really cute! I was nervous for a moment because it looked like all the girls wanted pink! It of course all worked out in the end. It was a lovely evening!

And the second project is my favorite! St. Patrick's Day! I love holidays, and St. Patrick's Day is high on the list of favorites. So I have been playing. I of course need one for me (and 2 others for family) so why did I need to make 7 total?? Oh because I am a mad vinyl cutter! I always think I'll see them on eBay or somewhere, but 5 days before the holiday?? Silly me! I'm still gonna try and see how it goes. Anyway, here are some more of my sillies!

AND... Sunday my little O turns the big "05"! So to top off my madness, we are having a huge birthday party at our tiny, little house with both sides of the family! Please tell me I'm not crazy and I can do this! ?? we'll see! I wanted to post the final draft of the invite and my favorite picture from our many leprechaun shoots. ENJOY!

Daily Gems
A Time to Prepare
------------------------------

"The gospel of Jesus Christ is the plan by which we can become what children of God are supposed to become. This spotless and perfected state will result from a steady succession of covenants, ordinances, and actions, an accumulation of right choices, and from continuing repentance. 'This life is the time for men to prepare to meet God' (Alma 34:32).

"Now is the time for each of us to work toward our personal conversion, toward becoming what our Heavenly Father desires us to become. As we do so, we should remember that our family
relationships--even more than our Church callings--are the setting in which the most important part of that development can occur. The conversion we must achieve requires us to be a good husband and father or a good wife and mother. Being a successful Church leader is not enough.
Exaltation is an eternal family experience, and it is our mortal family experiences that are best suited to prepare us for it." (Dallin H. Oaks, "The Challenge to Become," Ensign, Nov. 2000, 33)

So why is these always come just when I need them??!!! Right now I am going nuts doing stuff for our Activity Days Recognition night. Taking on WAY more than I should and at the same time I've been wondering am I "becoming what our Heavenly Father desires us to become"? I have such a hard time not taking on too much or over planing/overdoing things I just really need to work on that and work on being in my family more. And not being the mom who is always saying just a sec I've gotta do this one more thing, etc. Time to turn my compass.
